Dr. Ashley graduated from Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Many, many years before that (at age 3) she set her sights on doing something she always wanted to be…a voice for the voiceless. Prior to being accepted into veterinary school, she worked as a veterinary technician for 11 years, both at a small animal hospital and an equine emergency hospital. Dr. Ashley grew up with many animals and actively showed her horses for most of her childhood. Upon obtaining her DVM, she practiced as a relief veterinarian for the first 7 years. She practiced at multiple hospitals and learned different business models, policies, and protocols. Dr. Ashley is married to her entrepreneurial business partner Paul for the past 15 blissful years. Together they have 3 children: Brittany, Travis, and Alyssa; and their first grandbaby Emma. On many occasions, you will find them helping out at the clinic and passing out goodies to your fur-babies. In her spare time, she volunteers with the family dog Brawlin, who is a certified therapy dog, to local elementary schools and nursing homes. She also enjoys trying new recipes and cooking for her family and friends, and gardening. Her practice motto is to “treat common conditions uncommonly well.” She will always answer all your questions and make sure you understand why your pet needs certain treatments or procedures. We will discuss what to expect for long-term care through all your pet’s life stages. Dr. Ashley looks forward to assisting you soon, where you will be greeted with a friendly smile and a handshake.

Dr. Kohrt’s experiences in the world of veterinary medicine are both exciting and extensive. From humble beginnings, she worked tirelessly as a technician to save up money for veterinary school tuition. As a technician she worked at traditional small and exotic animal practices and got her boots muddy at a good old fashioned mobile large animal practice. In 1996, Dr. Kohrt earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Illinois. As a veterinarian in addition to traditional small animals, she has worked with numerous species of wildlife and avian patients in a clinical environment. Dr. Kohrt extended her studies to earn a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Pathobiology. In addition, she has been a clinical assistant professor. In this capacity she taught poultry disease, and pathology to up and coming veterinary students at the University of Illinois. This has led her to possess an exceptional set of skills enabling her to diagnose and work up solutions to treat patients. Being an assistant professor has also given her great communication skills, which helps clients fully understand the diagnosis and the treatment options that she may recommend. Her areas of special interest are dermatology, ophthalmology, and dentistry. Diagnosing and treating disease and abnormalities is her passion. In her free time Dr. Kohrt is an avid birder, in fact she has traveled the contiguous 48 states watching for wild and rare bird species, and she is seen as one of the best by bird enthusiasts. Dr. Kohrt’s move to Lake Jackson from Amarillo to join the team at the Brazos Woods Veterinary Clinic brings her to the Gulf Coast which she calls “her happy place.” When you meet Dr. Kohrt with your domestic or exotic pet, you are sure to get the benefit of Dr. Kohrt’s extensive studies and experience with a variety of species. Dr. Kohrt is looking forward to assisting you with friendliness and compassion.
